Avondale Observes Juneteenth Holiday

Avondale city offices, libraries, and the resource center will be closed on Monday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.  As the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, the holiday will be observed by the city on Monday, June 19.

This is the first year that the City of Avondale will honor Juneteenth Day as an official annual City holiday, as approved by the Avondale City Council this year, link to Mayor's Proclamation.  In 2016, Governor Doug Ducey signed HB2226, sponsored by Representative Reginald Bolding, recognizing June 19 as Juneteenth Day in Arizona and making Arizona the 45th State to recognize Juneteenth as a State holiday. Last year, President Biden officially recognized Juneteenth as a federal holiday.

Trash and recycling pick up schedule will not change. The Public Works Department will follow the regular routine schedule of pick up, Monday through Friday. Complete details on sanitation services can be found online
