Avondale Announces Holiday Closures and Solid Waste Schedule
In observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day both falling on a Wednesday this year, the City of Avondale announces the closure of various facilities and adjustments to public services.
City facilities, including City Hall, City Court; Avondale Public Libraries; Mountain View Community Center; Visitor and Conference Center; the Arizona Complete Health Avondale Resource Center, along with administrative offices at Public Works and Public Safety, will be closed on Thursday, Christmas Day (December 25, 2025) and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2026). These facilities will also be closed on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, as part of the City Council’s commitment to Avondale employees for meeting the annual Valley of the Sun United Way campaign fundraising goal. This year, Avondale city employees raised over $120,000 for the United Way campaign.
The Public Works Department will adhere to the following holiday trash and recycling pick-up schedule:
- There will be no solid waste services on Thursday, December 25, 2025, and Thursday, January 1, 2026. Trash and recycling services will take place one day later.
- Containers must be placed curbside no later than 5 a.m. on the day of collection.

WeRIDE microtransit will not operate on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Valley Metro will be running a Sunday level of bus service on these observed holidays.
