Avondale hosts Meetings on Proposed Water/Wastewater Rate Increase
On Monday, November 6, 2017 the Avondale City Council adopted a Notice of Intent to raise water and wastewater rates.
Avondale’s utility customers are encouraged to learn more about proposed changes to their water and wastewater rates that could take effect beginning on February 20, 2018.
In February 2016, the Avondale City Council approved a six-year schedule of water and wastewater rates based on a utility rate study, conducted in 2014 and presented to City Council in 2015, which determined that adjustments in both water and waste water enterprises were required in order for the City to sustain current levels of service to its customers; fund necessary infrastructure improvements; meet debt service, as well as establish much-needed fund reserves to ensure continued reliable water and wastewater delivery to residents and businesses.
This year, staff will present recommendations to the City Council to implement the third of these rate increases, effective February 20, 2018. If approved, water and wastewater rates would each increase by 6 percent.
Under the new rate schedule, the average increase to a water customer who uses 9kgal/month would be $1.47. Average increase to a wastewater customer who generates 6kgal/month would be $1.49.
Information regarding the rate changes will be made available on the City’s website: www.avondaleaz.gov. Additionally, the following informational public meetings will provide customers the opportunity to learn more about the new rate proposal. All meetings are held at Avondale City Hall located at 11465 W. Civic Center Drive.
