ANMP0190Building Code Adoption

The City of Avondale has adopted the 2024 International Code Council (ICC) family of codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC), including City of Avondale specific local amendments. The code adoption ensures the continued safety, sustainability, and resiliency of the built environment within our community, while maintaining consistency with State standards and regional best practices.

The ordinance will become effective on January 1, 2026, in accordance with the City's standard ordinance adoption procedures.

The City’s code amendments reflect Avondale’s unique local conditions, public safety priorities, and community development goals, while maintaining alignment with Arizona Revised Statutes Title 9, State Building Energy provisions, and Maricopa County health and safety standards.

The purpose for the adoption of the latest ICC codes and NEC ensures that construction in Avondale continues to meet nationally recognized life-safety standards, supports energy efficiency, and addresses new building technologies and construction materials. These codes establish minimum standards for design, construction, and maintenance of buildings and structures.
